Lyrics & Poems Bently, Serhan (2010-03-09) [Music in the background] >>ANDERSON: Writing a little bit about stuff in the Bible. >>NARRATOR: Okay so you can introduce yourself. >>ANDERSON: Oh, boy. Nice to meet you, ladies. I am Cedric Anderson. You can say Serhan. [Everyone laughs] >>ANDERSON: And I'll just tell you a little bit about my..What is it? Literacy? >>NARRATOR 1 and 2: Yeah, literacy narrative. >>ANDERSON: Okay. My narrative will be: I like to read, write, and mainly like poems or anything dealing with music, sometimes even in the Bible. I would love to do that. Never had a problem with reading or writing. I like to unless it's a long hard class. So yes, I get tired. I'll fall asleep on my book while I'm studying. That's about it. Just some normal stuff. >>NARRATOR 2: What kind of poems do you write? >>ANDERSON: I don't know. It depends on the situations. Whatever I'm feeling at the moment type things. >>NARRATOR 1: So that's what you write in your journal? >>ANDERSON: Yeah well, my journal is the same as the things I like. It can be in my Bible. If I wanted to make what you call rap, some rap music. >>NARRATOR 2: Some music lyrics. >>ANDERSON: It's all in my little binder. All in one. >>NARRATOR 2: So you document stuff that happened like the significant things that happened through out your life? >>ANDERSON: Sometimes. If it's catchy. And sometimes I can make a song out of those situations in my life or other verses. >>NARRATOR 1: When did you start doing that? >>ANDERSON: Probably around middle school? I was keeping a little journal. Watch myself grow from saying some dumb stuff to some stuff with meaning or hidden meaning inside. Change it up. >>NARRATOR 2: Do you have more than one journal? >>NARRATOR 1: So you have stacks at home? >>ANDERSON: I have stacks at home and that's going to be some money right there. [Everyone laughs] >>ANDERSON: I'd say about 4 or 5 of them. >>NARRATOR 1: Do you ever want to do anything with your poems? Like publish them or anything like that? In a school newspaper? >>ANDERSON: I want to get my own studio equipment actually. >>NARRATOR 1: So would you read your poems out loud for your studio? >>ANDERSON: No, it won't be in poem format. I'll try to make a song out of that. >>NARRATOR 2: So you're trying to translate your poems into lyrics. >>ANDERSON: I'll take one idea and transform it. Just like they want; so I transform it. [Everyone laughs] >>NARRATOR 1: That's so funny. So do you remember when you learned to read or write? >>ANDERSON: "Green Eggs and Ham" is as far as I can go. How to spell, read, and all the crayons. I had them all, gadgets and what not. >>NARRATOR 2: Did your mom or your dad help you learn to read? >>ANDERSON: Probably my dad taught me how to do cursive. That's about it. Pretty much the school did a good job on me. >>NARRATOR 1: Where did you go to school? >>ANDERSON: I went to Columbus public: Koebel Elementary, Beery Middle School. >>NARRATOR 2: Did you learn it in Kindergarten or 1st grade? >>ANDERSON: When you start Kindergarten, you start half-days, so I was ahead in my class where I was able to do Kindergarten full day. I learned to read and write and know the difference between what colors, and stuff like that. So they put me in there quickly. So I'm starting this way. [Everyone laughs] >>NARRATOR 2: You have a 3 month old right? >>ANDERSON: About to be 4 months, and I read to him now. >>NARRATOR 3: Hi, mom! >>ANDERSON: Oh I got him some books. Some little Clifford books, something else..what's it? Snoopy? Teaching him how to count and different things. >>NARRATOR 1: That's so fun. >>NARRATOR 2: You guys read every night before bed? >>ANDERSON: Yeah, I'm reading to him whenever he's up, actually because he likes to grab the book and look at the pictures. He likes the more pop-out ones. So it's fun, even though he can't say a word yet at all. NARRATOR 2: He's still interested in reading. NARRATOR 1: That's so fun. NARRATOR 2: That's good. Do you have anymore questions? NARRATOR 1: No. Thank you so much. ANDERSON: Thank you.
