My Literacy Narrative Wright, J. (2010-03-10) >>INTERVIEWER 1: So do you have any stories about when you first learned to read or write? >>J: Um, not really. I kind of learned from elementary school and then going home with different assignments and work that my mom used to help me with, so nothing really major. >>INTERVIEWER 1: So you more learned to read at school than you did at home with your mom? >>J: Um, yeah I probably put more time in at school versus at home. At school is when I began to learn, then at home she would finish it up or help. >>INTERVIEWER 1: Do you like English class? >>J: No, I hate English. >>INTERVIEWER 1: Why do you hate English? >>J: Because I had a horrible teacher in high school. She was very young and she would just gossip with us and sit down and talk about a bunch of inappropriate things that didn't concern English. And at the time it was fun because you didn't have to do any work, but now it sucks because I'm in college having to write different papers or essays and not good at it because, thinking back she was my English teacher all throughout high school. >>INTERVIEWER 1: Every year? >>J: Mmmhmm. >>INTERVIEWER 1: Oh my gosh. [laughter] >>J: Well, at least she was our English teacher from Sophomore to Senior year, because she taught Honors English. >>INTERVIEWER 1: Do you feel like you were behind when you got to college because of her? >>J: Yeah, yeah I feel like a beginner. [laughter] >>INTERVIEWER 2: I was going to say, did you go to a public school? >>J: I went to a public high school but a Catholic elementary school. >>INTERVIEWER 1: Okay.
