>>INTERVIEWER: What school did you go to, for the second time, for the GED?

>>VANESSA ROY: Bliss College. 

>>INTERVIEWER: And how do they try to get you ready for the GED?

>>VANESSA ROY: Well, the main thing they did -- now, they was nothing like Mr. Cleveland. they were like "Give me a book, piece a paper, put it up on the board." So you figure it out yourself. 

>>INTERVIEWER: Oh, wow. 

>>VANESSA ROY: You know what I am saying? How can you figure the answer out when you don't understand the answer? How can I answer something, a question, when I don't understand it? I don't understand the question so how can I answer it? I think that was wrong the way the teacher did it. I grew up complaining about it but they didn't do anything about it. You know, the days I was going she was picking stuff up: "Just write something on the board, you figure it out." They teach you step by step how it is supposed to work. So that is how it happened. I mean I took the test to get into the class to see where I was because I wanted to go to the school next to where I live at. They be staying in Brice Road; it's a school up there, a high school. I can go out my front door and go to the school. It's close to me because I didn't have to drive. I could drive on Livingston but I couldn't get into the class because my scores were too low. 

>>INTERVIEWER: Do you guys use the computer program like plato? Because I know he was talking about that. 

>>VANESSA ROY: Okay, about the computer program? How I found about that? The guy I was sitting, the gentlemen sitting next to me, was telling me I could take the pretest on the computer. I said "Can I?" I didn't know. So I wanted to go and do it myself to see just exactly where I am at, again. And, for instance, my speed because you know they time you. You know what I am saying? You might have thirty 30 to do this, 35 minutes to do this. I wanted to see because I know it takes me time – I can read but I might have to read over it three or four times if I couldn't understand it. You have to answer this question in so many minutes because you are getting timed. That is the reason why I didn't know anything about it; he just told me about it and I said "Oh, I am going to do it today."
