>>JULIA AVERILL: Hi, I'm Julia Averill and this is my literacy narrative.  I just wanted to tell a quick story about a trip that took when I was about nine years old with my parents.  We drove in a tiny two door Toyota Corolla, which weren't so nice back then. And we drove from Columbus Ohio clear out to California, Oregon, Washington and back in four weeks.  Well the only way I could possibly stay sane in the back seat of a Toyota Corolla that did not have windows that could roll down in the back was by the loads of books that are brought.  I went to the library with my mother and checked out about probably 30 books, varying in the length and subject, and I kept them in the little foot wells.  And I had just a little library back there and I set up a little bed and all I did was read because we were on the road for like eight hours a day; I don't even know what we stopped to see.  I just remember getting me through that time and how much I learned that summer from the books that I read.  So that's my happy story about reading.
