A New Life Kilgore, Joy JOY: When I was seventeen years old I was diagnosed with early onset major depression and as the years went by I didn't drive for like fifteen years and I couldn't read. I couldn't focus, I couldn't remember. Basically I was just illiterate. The medications have changed over the years and one day I was with my brother, I lived with him, he was an art history major and he had lots of art history books so I would look at them. I started this new medicine and I had felt better and I realized I was reading the captions underneath and as I took it, it got better and better. I went to the adult education writing center and I went to Polaski Tech and then I came here and I just learned how to do all of it. So it's just like a new life.
