Comp 1 Parrish, Megan MEGAN: Well I guess I didn't really enjoy any of my writing classes in high school so I didn't really have any teachers that I connected with or anything like that. My first writing class here at college was with Greg Graham and my gosh, he was amazing. He really pulled me into the process, made me want to put myself into my pieces and I think his Comp. 1 class really helped me open up as a writer. I've always done creative writing on my own, writing in my journal or maybe a little poetry here and there, I've been really involved in music so I write lyrics and stuff like that. Until I got into his Comp. 1 class last semester I had no clue what really powerful writing was. I absolutely just fell in love with it and I've made myself a writing minor now because of it. He encouraged me to tell a story; we did an essay about our storyteller in our life that really affected us and my grandfather had just passed away this semester so I wrote a story about him. It was a great healing process for me because it came at a perfect time for me because everything was so traumatic and I just started to realize how important it is for us to tell these stories in our lives and how important it is for our teachers to want us to open up and to push us to open up and write these stories even if we don't want to, even if we don't want to share them. Actually doing it is a very healing process and it was just really incredible.
