My Story

>>DAWN MIRANDA: Hi, my name is Dawn Miranda Fraser and I'm from the Alabama E&M University Writing Project in Huntsville, Alabama. I wanted to tell my story about writing because I'm from a different place, I'm from Guyana in South America and writing for me was a bit different before I came to North America. I did my first degree in Canada but what I found is that when I go to a writing session, many people were writing I would say in a conversational way and I was not used to that. With us, even though we spoke English that was kind of a Pidgin English or what we call broken English. When we wrote we had to write the Queen's English because our place was a colony at one point. So coming to America was very interesting for me because now I'm trying to write in a conversational way so that the ordinary person can understand what I'm saying. So that was very interesting. Now I write into the day with my students or when I write with writing project TC's, I do a little better I think. So that's basically my writing story but I have many others that I can tell, but we won't do that today. [Laughing]
