My Story Edmonds, Bernie >>BERNIE: My name is Bernie Edmonds, I'm from the Fox Valley Writing Project in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This story is about Rick Riordan's book "The Lightning Thief"; I teach a ninth grade reading course at my high school where students are reading two grades below median level and I was looking for some books that I could use to help motivate them. Anyway, my eleven year old daughter pushed the book, "The Lightning Thief" in front of me and said, "Dad, have your kids read this, it's really good." So I ordered about fifteen books for the class and we started reading it. The kids liked it but I want to tell you one story about a boy named Andrew who didn't like to read. His mom told me that he really enjoyed the lightning thief and he asked for the second book for Christmas and she was so excited about this and she bought it for him. She told me a story about when she came home one afternoon her husband and their older son, they were both out in the garage working on the car and she asked where Andrew was and they said they didn't know and she thought, "Great, I wonder what he's been doing all day." So she walked in the house and Andrew's lying on the couch reading a book and she said she almost just fainted. The other part of that, he finished the second book and she helped him actually buy the third book online on Amazon.com with his own money. So that's my story about Andrew, thank you.
