Time transcripts of andihila [00:00:00:00] Alright so, learning how to speak English [00:00:04:00] so I basically moved here when I was in Kindergarten so.. [00:00:08:01] for about the first 2 months, I was pretty much lost in class [00:00:12:01] and I didn't know what any of the words meant and the teacher just [00:00:16:01] pointed at pictures and saying words but I didn't really get it and then watching cartoons [00:00:20:02] helped, I would say because I associated actions with a thing [00:00:24:02] but I mean, I remember in kindergarten.. the speech teacher [00:00:28:02] or whatever came in and... she like took [00:00:32:02] my hand and dragged me to the speech room, but I thought i was being kidnapped [00:00:36:03] because I really didn't know what was going on, and then I realized she was just teaching me [00:00:40:03] how to say "apple" and stuff.. and I guess after like... [00:00:44:03] 3 or 4 months of just being around the words and constantly hearing them [00:00:48:04] I kind of just started... because English is, the syntax [00:00:52:04] is completely different than what I'm accustomed to so I started like [00:00:56:04] clicking in my brain.. and then like [00:01:00:04] probably watching like Arthur and the other kiddie TV show [00:01:04:04] I learned how to say it and then I learned how to [00:01:08:05] speak it and read it {Interviewer] So is English really [00:01:12:05] different from your native language? which what is.. what is [00:01:16:06] that? -Albanian, I was born in Albania, I spoke that [00:01:20:06] the syntax is different and like theres a lot more slang in English so.. [00:01:24:06] It was harder to pick up.. in that sense but I mean [00:01:28:07] to get accustomed to the different syntax, I feel like... Because I kind of speak Spanish [00:01:32:07] too and I used to speak Italian when I was little too because I picked it up from TV [00:01:36:07] but English is.. the syntax is different so I just think... it takes a while [00:01:40:07] just to get accustomed to getting your brain to think the other way but like once you do... [00:01:44:08] its just visual cues and read, you just learn it [00:01:48:08] and like now I think in English but, like before when I was little I didn't think [00:01:52:08] in English, so now like reading in English [00:01:56:08] is like first nature to me rather than second nature [ Interviewer ] Do you speak in English at home to your parents? [00:02:00:09] -rarely.. I mean I speak a lot more [00:02:04:09] now.. but I usually just speak Albanian [00:02:08:10] -[ Interviewer ] Thanks
