Time transcripts of Trudy_112111 [00:00:00:01] Ok, umm... My name is Trudy Wu. [00:00:04:02] I am a sophomore at Ohio State. Um, my major is [00:00:08:03] biology. Um, so I...my [00:00:12:04] earliest memories of learning how to read were, um.. [00:00:16:06] First of all, I learned the alphabet in like preschool or whatever. And then, [00:00:20:08] they started off by teaching us, like you know, like, [00:00:24:10] really, like simple words like cat and dog, and then slowly you start like [00:00:28:12] assigning like levels and you would read like little picture books. [00:00:32:13] Um, so that's how I learned to read. [00:00:36:15] Um, ok. How that applies to [00:00:40:16] what I'm doing right now as a biology major is [00:00:44:18] that um, well I [00:00:48:20] think reading is a very vital skill that is helpful in everything and [00:00:52:21] I have to read like textbooks a lot to [00:00:56:22] kind of comprehend the material that we go over in lecture. And then, [00:01:00:23] um, writing comes into play when we [00:01:04:25] a lot of times, you have to like write lab reports. So, we have [00:01:08:26] to like um, but that writing is kind of a more scientific kind of writing. [00:01:12:28] than like creative writing, which I enjoy also. [00:01:16:29] But that's always more like always like third person very um [00:01:21:02] formal in lab reports and such. But other [00:01:25:03] than reading textbooks and writing lab reports [00:01:29:04] I guess we like, in, in like a couple years, we're gonna be [00:01:33:06] ...we're gonna be have to writing research papers. So... [00:01:37:07] [Interviewer: How does that make you feel? Is that like a nervous [00:01:41:09] type of...?] Research papers? [Interviewer: Yes.] Um, [00:01:45:12] not really, I mean I guess the hardest part about doing research papers is conducting [00:01:49:14] the research first and then um figuring out the best way [00:01:53:15] to uh explain that onto paper [00:01:57:16] to readers to understand what you did and... [00:02:01:17] Um, kind of simplify it, in um, more [00:02:05:20] simple terms so everyone can understand what you're doing besides making [00:02:09:22] it like really verbiose and stuff. But, um... [00:02:13:23] How has being in the sorority affected my [00:02:17:24] major? It's definitely been a struggle [00:02:21:26] because a lot of majors don't require a lot, I mean [00:02:25:27] different majors require like different amounts of studying and time dedication [00:02:29:29] So, it's been difficult [00:02:34:02] to mircomanage everything, but, um being [00:02:38:02] a Kappa has defineitely, um, inspired me [00:02:42:03] to try harder. And... I've met a lot [00:02:46:04] of great girls who do share the same aspirations that I do and want [00:02:50:05] to have the same future as I do. So, it's been, um, encouraging [00:02:54:07] to have friends along the way in this experience. [00:02:58:09] [Interviewer: Ok. Thank you.]
