Transcripts of ann -Whats your name? - My name is Ann. -Tell me a little about yourself. What do you do? - I am an eighth grade intervention specialist. I specialize in the area of math. - And now, what are you going to talk about today? - I would like to talk about the importance of early intervention with reading with all children. -Carry on, Tell me your story. - Well, as I got into the field of special education I realized that most of the students that I worked with really struggled because back from the very beginning of their lives they were not exposed to a lot of language. They didn't have books in the home and it was very very difficult for them. So with my own children I knew that I needed to read to my children. Right away, as soon as they were born. And that that was going to help them excel... so My own children have done very very well and are great readers. And I feel that thats really important. -Was there anything when you were younger that inspired you to be a teacher? Or want to help in that way? -Well, [ laughter ] I always loved school. And I didn't really realize I wanted to be a teacher until I got into college and actually started to work at... actually the OSU child care center. And they put me with the kindergarten class, and I realized how much I loved kids. And how much I love working with them with math and reading. And I did teach reading for the first 19 years of my teaching career. So [ clears throat ] just recently I've specialized in math, but it's been wonderful. [ laughter ] -Well, thank you very much
