Time transcripts of Virginia [00:00:00:00] [Interviewer:] Okay, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? [00:00:02:22] My name's Virginia Fisher, I'm a freshman at Ohio State University. [00:00:08:06] I'm majoring in linguistics and double-minoring in Spanish and Korean. [00:00:14:05] [Interviewer:] Okay. So when did you first encounter the International Phonetic Alphabet? [00:00:21:14] I first learned about IPA when I was in my fall quarter freshman linguistics class, which is 201H. [00:00:29:17] It was the first time I saw it, and learned about all the different sounds, [00:00:34:25] what they correspond to in English and other languages. [00:00:37:26] [Interviewer:] Okay, what did you think of it? [00:00:39:23] I thought it was kind of hard at first, and then it was it got easier once you get used to it, [00:00:45:24] Except for the fact that sometimes, people use a certain symbol and sometimes they use another symbol for it, [00:00:52:19] like for different vowels, like easy ones like T, it's always T, [00:00:56:21] But then like, the "A" sound is sometimes "E-I" and sometimes like "E-Y" or something like that.
