Time transcripts of Wessel_Dirksenaudio [00:00:00:00] [Interviewer] Hi. Can you say name please? Wessel Dirksen [00:00:04:00] [Interviewer] Alright, and what's your story going to be about? My [00:00:08:00] story's going to be about three books, that I [00:00:12:06] find that have been very important into my life. Umm, I've read many, many books [00:00:16:06] Umm, it's really hard to pick just a few but, [00:00:20:06] there's three that I have chose to focus on and the first one [00:00:24:06] is the Bible, and it's by far the [00:00:28:06] one that has had the most, affect on my life. [00:00:32:07] The, second one is called The Shape [00:00:36:07] of Sola Scriptura, by Kieth Mathison, [00:00:40:07] and the last one is called Signature in the Cell, by Stephen [00:00:44:07] Meyer. [Interviewer] Alright. Well whenever you're ready you can share your story [00:00:48:07] Okay, well the bible is where everything starts. [00:00:52:07] of all the books I've read, it is by far the one that has [00:00:56:07] had the most affect in me in terms of, intellectually, [00:01:00:07] in terms of my personality, who I am [00:01:04:07] what I do and there is not even a close second when it comes to [00:01:08:07] that. Umm, I read the bible on [00:01:12:07] a daily basis, and in there, there's some many different [00:01:16:07] things that pertain to my life. Who is God? [00:01:20:07] Who am I? Why are we here? You know and [00:01:24:07] there's so many answers to, the reason and the purpose [00:01:28:07] in my life, and how I relate to others. [00:01:32:07] Umm...That it is just if [00:01:36:07] that's the only, book I ever had, I would be satisfied. (Chuckle) [00:01:40:07] Umm, and uh... [00:01:44:07] Do want me to go to the other ones know? [Interviewer: well let me ask you this] yes [00:01:48:07] [Interviewer] So some people have like a life verse or maybe like a life [00:01:52:07] book in the bible. So is there like a specific thing that is [00:01:56:07] [Interviewer] been like, the foundation in that? For me [00:02:00:07] I don't have a life verse I have a chapter, [Interviewer: Okay] and it is Romans three [00:02:04:07] the whole chapter, and I'll tell you why. [00:02:08:07] Because in that one chapter, you have both [00:02:12:07] the problem... my problem, the world's problem [00:02:16:07] and the remedy, all in one short chapter. [00:02:20:07] And uh, I just find that, chapter... [00:02:24:07] again there's many, many chapters that I really like but [00:02:28:07] that one chapter is my, my absolute favorite. [00:02:32:07] [Interviewer: Alright. I guess if you're ready you can move on to the others.] Okay. [00:02:36:07] Umm, so the other book... is [00:02:40:07] called The Shape of Sola Scriptura. It's [00:02:44:07] a book, that has to do with the authority. Where as a Christian [00:02:48:07] is my authority and [00:02:52:07] of course, Sola Scriptura means, scripture alone [00:02:56:07] and this goes back to the debate during the protestant reformation [00:03:00:07] is...where do we find God's revelation. [00:03:04:07] Do we find it in the Bible? [00:03:08:07] Or do we find it in the Bible plus tradition. And [00:03:12:07] there of course have been, that has been a source of tremendous [00:03:16:07] debate over the years and this book I found explained, [00:03:20:07] all the issues very clearly [00:03:24:07] and it helped me to take insight into [00:03:28:07] ways in which, umm [00:03:32:07] we all kind of go astray (chuckle), regardless. [00:03:36:07] You know regardless of what side your on, on the debate, we tend to go [00:03:40:07] in different directions, and the book would really help me [00:03:44:07] think about, the proper authority [00:03:48:07] within the church. Umm... and [00:03:52:07] So it's one of the most significant books I've read. [00:03:56:07] [Interviewer] Alright. [00:04:00:07] [Interviewer] Umm... I think you can go ahead and move on to [00:04:04:07] [Interviewer] the next one. Okay. Umm, then the third book is [00:04:08:07] called Signature in the Cell, by Stephen Meyer. [00:04:12:07] Umm, I'm a scientist, I do research, and so the issue [00:04:16:07] of the origin of life is obviously [00:04:20:07] one that is a hotly debated in my [00:04:24:07] field and umm, as a Christian [00:04:28:07] uh, believing that God created everything that there is [00:04:32:07] uh, has bearing [00:04:36:07] on these debates, that scientists have. [00:04:40:15] Signature and the Cell, to me really captures [00:04:44:15] what the main question, of the origin [00:04:48:15] of life is. And that is, how do we explain [00:04:52:15] the information that is found in DNA. [00:04:56:15] Umm, and it is an absolutely fascinating [00:05:00:15] book. The writer is one who would be proponent of intelligent [00:05:04:15] design, umm, but if [00:05:08:15] you are not a proponent of intelligent design this book would be still valuable [00:05:12:15] because he gives the entire history, of the ways [00:05:16:15] people have tried to explain problems. You know, within [00:05:20:15] the origin of life field. And [00:05:24:15] it is just, one where you just learn [00:05:28:15] one thing after the other, and it really helped me to crystallize my [00:05:34:11] thought on, issues of origin of life from a scientific perspective. [00:05:38:11] So it really helped me, to bring the scientific [00:05:42:11] aspect of my thinking, with the religious [00:05:46:11] aspect of my life, that I find in the bible, and to [00:05:50:11] have those two come and, work hand in hand so to speak. [00:05:54:11] [Interviewer: Great. Well thank you Wessel for your narrative.] You're welcome.
