The literate artist Sukany, L.K. (2009-04-22) >>LAUREN: Hello. My name is Lauren Sukany, and the story begins, well the story doesn't really begin anywhere. But I was going to tell you about my literature experience. I went through undergrad college, got my Fine Art degree, and I had to take a bunch of English classes, and World Literature, and history and all sorts of things where we had to read. And I did great and I read them and I wrote papers and I made As and it was wonderful. But I believe I left the university not really enjoying reading or really knowing how to read, or even being able to appreciate literature. So fast forward a couple of years and I'm working part time at an art shop, so I have about 40 hours a week that I am able to work at my studio at home. And I begin to go to the library and I find a book on tape. I think it was a Charles Dickens, and I thought Oh, I love Charles Dickens. I remember liking it. So I though I'll just get this and I'll play it and I'll see if I like it. Well, I mean three months later I had heard all the classics and even children's stories. I got really into children's literature. And here I am today and I listen to books on tape whenever I paint and print-make and it's amazing. And I love literature.
