A Passion for Writing Gail, Padraig (2009-04-22) >>PADRAIG GAIL: My family is a little crazy. As I was growing up my mom was probably the know-all and end-all of the entire street. Everybody liked it down at my house because she would lay down the law even if you weren't her own kids. But if you were her kids there was no hope, especially if you broke any rules. She is a pretty cool old person; she is my old lady. My mom was a waitress and a bartender for about 20 years now. She still is, when she can find the work. >>PADRAIG GAIL: Whenever she was on the road she used to sell cleaner -- I'm sorry -- she used to sell cleaner on the road. She used to tell me these stories about how she would get into trouble a little bit, or get out of it, or be like "Oh no! Something bad is going to happen if I screw up" and stuff like that. >>PADRAIG GAIL: Well, one time she was in the kitchen of this all men's club -- you know, one of those fraternities where they are like "A women hasn't been in here in over 200 years." Well, she was in the kitchen, you know which wasn't technically in the building, as far as they were concerned. She was selling cleaner. She sold about a case but she crawled out threw the dumb waiter spot, stood up on the bar, took her cleaner and made a happy face on the ceiling. Every guy that was there just stood there with their mouths open as she stood there on top of the bar and basically eliminated their entire record of 200 years without a woman in the bar. It goes to show you that she is a good bartender. >>PADRAIG GAIL: My sister is a little bit, well, flakey. They are waving me that I have a little bit of time left so I am going to say thanks to my editor, Brandon Luebke, and everyone who has bought my book and likes it and all my friends and family.
