[00:00:06.98] Every minute they had to be working in the fields [00:00:11.05] or with the animals or canning food, or tending the garden. [00:00:16.46] It was very busy for them, so . . . [00:00:20.77] My dad would, in the summers would work until [00:00:24.38] out in the fields until 10, 10:30 at night [00:00:26.52] because it would be light in South Dakota. [00:00:28.44] So, and got up, you know, 5:30 in the morning, so (laughs). [00:00:34.44] They worked hard. They had lost their farm [00:00:38.82] when they were first married and when Gene was born [00:00:42.13] because they didn't have enough money to pay for it [00:00:44.64] because it was the Depression, and so [00:00:48.16] my parents never wanted to go through that again. [00:00:51.84] That was a very hard experience for them. [00:00:54.98] And so, they both worked really hard [00:00:58.19] so that they could provide for their family, [00:01:01.85] so I have to be grateful to them for that.
