Indian in the Cupboard Teague, Larry (2009-04-23) >>LARRY TEAGUE: My literacy story, I think starts somewhere around fourth grade, 'cause I was not an avid reader by any sense. Teachers couldn't get me to read in class, things like that. And Ms. Heynid, Lea Heynid, she taught me, she made us read The Indian in the Cupboard, by Lynne Reid Banks, and I loved it. My parents read it, my mom read it to me at night. We read it in school, we acted out and I loved it. Later, sequels, read them, love them, and from that point on, it's pretty much avid reading. From, it went from there to Chronicles of Narnia series, and Jack London, and of course my comics, which I still read today, ashamedly. And from there I realized I wanted to write those things because that's what I enjoyed reading, so much that I wanted to write them. Became a writing major at UCA, got a degree there, and getting a technical one here at [?]. Writing is pretty much, writing and reading have pretty much been my life, and it's all pretty much fused from Indian in the Cupboard, which I would still read today if I come across a copy of it sometime soon. So that's my literacy story.
