My Mom's Struggle to Read Abdi >>SPEAKER: You can start whenever you want and just talk in the general direction of the mike and we're ready to go. [Loud Background Noise of People Talking] >>ABDI: Hi everyone, this is Abdi. [Inaudible] I've been here in the United States since November, 2003 until 2007 so probably about three years now. My literacy moment is my mom never had the opportunity to go to school so she probably encouraged me to study hard because she felt like there was something missing in her life. Up to this day I kind of look back and see the way she was struggling to read and write and I remember [Inaudible] she started learning about the Koran and she basically started [Inaudible]. Whenever I see myself trying to give up I always look back at her and the way she was struggling to read, every letter and every word and I am still proud of her right now and [Inaudible] to do so and help others come from illiteracy to literate. I hope everybody gets this message and thank you for your time, bye. >>SPEAKER: You're going to have to fill out a couple forms really quickly, ok? >>ABDI: Ok.
